Olena Mykhailenko, Researcher Summary
Dr. Olena Mykhailenko is active in the areas of cross-cultural analysis and transformative online learning. She is an Associate EILAB Researcher and a founding member of a University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT), Canada and Kyiv National Economic University (KNEU), Ukraine partnership formalized in 2015. This partnership supports collaborative, international activity in the areas of online learning, digital competencies and professional development.
As a 2016 Visiting Scholar at UOIT, Dr. Mykhailenko implemented a collaborative-constructivist online pilot course in Ukrainian (“Dimensions of Culture and Professional Strategies”) based on UOIT’s Fully Online Learning Community (FOLC) model. In this context, she functioned as a teacher-investigator, facilitating a learning community and leading an accompanying research study exploring the role of a cross-cultural teacher in the context of transformative online learning.
Olena is co-organizer of the Canada-Ukraine Online Learning Consortium (CUOLC), a development and research strategy for pursuing collaborative constructivist online learning as a catalyst for democratization. She is also co-founder of Vistas Canada EDU, an international educational agency promoting innovative graduate and undergraduate programs at University of Ontario Institute of Technology, Canada in Eastern Europe.
For more than a decade, Dr. Mykhailenko was an Associate Professor of Business Economics at Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman (KNEU), Kyiv, Ukraine. She also functioned as a Chief Researcher at the Research Economic Institute of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, and the Institute for Economics and Forecasting, Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences. Speaking Ukrainian, Russian and English, Dr. Mykhailenko is an internationally-focused scholar developing partnerships and participating in seminars throughout Europe. She currently lives in Oshawa, Canada and Kyiv, Ukraine.
