Roland van Oostveen received an undergraduate degree (BSc) in Marine Biology from the University of Guelph, Guelph, Ontario, Canada (1981) and subsequently added Masters (1995) and PhD (2005) degrees in Curriculum, Teaching and Learning from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) at the University of Toronto. From 1983 to 2000, he was a high-school science teacher in a variety of private and public schools in Alberta and Ontario. From 2003 to the present, Dr. van Oostveen became one of the founding faculty members of the Faculty of Education at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology. In 2015, he became Director of the Educational Informatics Laboratory (EILAB). His current research investigates the role of digital technology competencies in learning, and the development of open online learning environments.
