About us

Educational informatics represents the convergence of key aspects of information science, computing, and education while exploiting Web-based techniques and standards (Ford, 2008).

The Educational Informatics Laboratory (EILab) is a physical installation at the Mitch and Leslie Fraser Faculty of Education @ Ontario Tech University and a group of researchers simultaneously. The cameras and other equipment for the physical plant are housed in Charles Hall. The majority of the human members of the EILab work in the virtual world.

The EILab’s research focus revolves around human-computer-human interactions (HCHI), that is, interactions between humans that are mediated by computers. These interactions take many forms, including studies of skills and competencies when working with digital technologies, designing virtual learning environments, or exploring the relationships between digital technology use for learning purposes (technological determinism) and culture.
