Available Research Tools
These software tools are primarily hosted on servers owned and maintained by the EILab. The tools span a variety of tasks but are either open-source or are licensed by the EILab under Creative Commons Attribution Only license.
If you are interested in using any of these tools but you need access please contact the Director of the EILab at eilab.uoit@gmail.com
Survey-based tools form a major part of the research focus for researchers in the EILab. The surveys span a range of products that are developed in-house, such as the Digital Competency Profiler (DCP) and the Fully Online Learning Community Survey (FOLCS). There will also be a number of tools adapted from other sources, particularly as researchers start to explore the intersection of technology skills and socio-cultural factors. The tools are mostly posted on the GREx dashboard (see Server-Based Tools).

A number of tools used by EILab researchers are proprietary and some are open-source. Since the EILab is primarily a virtual space, although there is a physically-controlled space in Oshawa where some data can be collected through cameras and other specialized tools, we faced some problems in making software used available to researchers regardless of where they are in the world. Consequently we set up a dedicated machine that is available remotely to researchers who are associated with the EILab. This page describes these tools and their purpose.
